Ranjini George was born in Calcutta, India, lived in Kenya, the US, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and now lives in Canada. She holds a PhD in English (Northern Illinois University, USA), an MA in English (St. Stephens College, New Delhi), and an MFA in Creative Writing (University of British Columbia). She was an Associate Professor of English at Zayed University, Dubai.

She currently teaches in the Creative Writing and Arts & Humanities programs at the School of Continuing Studies, University of Toronto, classes such as Meditation and Writing and Stoicism and the Good Life. In 2019, she received the Excellence in Teaching Award. 

Her fiction and nonfiction were published in an anthology of women’s writings, The Sincerest Form of Flattery, in books such as 365 Ways to be More Stoic and The Stoic Teacher, and in literary magazines including AGNI, The Ontario Review, Gangway, So to Speak, WRITE, Stoicism Today, and Room of One’s Own (Room).

She won the Arnold B. Fox Award for Writing, was a Georges & Anne Bochardt Fiction scholar, and most recently, won first place in Canada’s inaugural Coffee Shop Author Contest for her travel memoir, Miracle of Flowers. Her book, Through My Mother’s Window: Emirati Women Tell their Stories and Recipes was published in Dubai (2016).
